Trauma: Resourcing and Spirituality
Our discussion of healing from trauma continues by adding spirituality. Again, my idea of spirituality is anything that helps us move beyond our small mind and connect to a larger, life-affirming perspective. As I have discussed in previous posts, resourcing involves connecting to activities and relationships that support a grounded sense of self: the opposite of the fear reaction associated with trauma. Resourcing is an essential aspect for balancing the pull of trauma energy. A life-affirming, personally-chosen spiritual practice can be a vital part of resourcing, whether it be prayer, meditation, mindfulness, walking in nature, creative arts, etc. Spiritual Energy (as discussed in my book) can provide a counterbalance that is much stronger than trauma energy. It provides the foundation for pendulation and titration (see earlier posts) to work.
